The last 10 verses of Surah Al-Kahf (18:101–110)

alladhīna kānat aʿyunuhum fī ghiṭāin ʿan dhik'rī wakānū lā yastaṭīʿūna samʿan

Those whose eyes had been within a cover [removed] from My remembrance, and they were not able to hear. (18:101)

afaḥasiba alladhīna kafarū an yattakhidhū ʿibādī min dūnī awliyāa innā aʿtadnā jahannama lil'kāfirīna nuzulan

Then do those who disbelieve think that they can take My servants instead of Me as allies? Indeed, We have prepared Hell for the disbelievers as a lodging. (18:102)

qul hal nunabbi-ukum bil-akhsarīna aʿmālan

Say, [O Muḥammad], "Shall we [believers] inform you of the greatest losers as to [their] deeds? (18:103)

alladhīna ḍalla saʿyuhum fī l-ḥayati l-dun'yā wahum yaḥsabūna annahum yuḥ'sinūna ṣun'ʿan

[They are] those whose effort is lost in worldly life, while they think that they are doing well in work." (18:104)

ulāika alladhīna kafarū biāyāti rabbihim waliqāihi faḥabiṭat aʿmāluhum falā nuqīmu lahum yawma l-qiyāmati waznan

Those are the ones who disbelieve in the verses of their Lord and in [their] meeting Him, so their deeds have become worthless; and We will not assign to them on the Day of Resurrection any weight [i.e., importance]. (18:105)

dhālika jazāuhum jahannamu bimā kafarū wa-ittakhadhū āyātī warusulī huzuwan

That is their recompense - Hell - for what they denied and [because] they took My signs and My messengers in ridicule. (18:106)

inna alladhīna āmanū waʿamilū l-ṣāliḥāti kānat lahum jannātu l-fir'dawsi nuzulan

Indeed, those who have believed and done righteous deeds - they will have the Gardens of Paradise as a lodging, (18:107)

khālidīna fīhā lā yabghūna ʿanhā ḥiwalan

Wherein they abide eternally. They will not desire from it any transfer. (18:108)

qul law kāna l-baḥru midādan likalimāti rabbī lanafida l-baḥru qabla an tanfada kalimātu rabbī walaw ji'nā bimith'lihi madadan

Say, "If the sea were ink for [writing] the words of my Lord, the sea would be exhausted before the words of my Lord were exhausted, even if We brought the like of it in [continual] supplement." (18:109)

qul innamā anā basharun mith'lukum yūḥā ilayya annamā ilāhukum ilāhun wāḥidun faman kāna yarjū liqāa rabbihi falyaʿmal ʿamalan ṣāliḥan walā yush'rik biʿibādati rabbihi aḥadan

Say, "I am only a man like you, to whom has been revealed that your god is one God. So whoever would hope for the meeting with his Lord - let him do righteous work and not associate in the worship of his Lord anyone." (18:110)

The last 10 verses of Surah Al-Kahf are 18:101–110, the end of the Quran’s 18th surah. Some narrators of the hadith about protection from the Dajjal reported them instead of the first ten.

All ten verses are at the top of this page in Arabic, transliteration and English. Below: what the hadith actually says about the last ten, what the verses mean, and a plan to memorize them in five days.

Is there a hadith about the last 10 verses of Surah Kahf?

Yes, but it’s the same hadith as the first ten, reported with different wording. Sahih Muslim records Abu ad-Darda’s hadith that whoever learns ten verses of Al-Kahf by heart will be protected from the Dajjal. The main narration says the first ten verses.

Muslim then gives a second chain and notes that its narrators differed. Shu’bah said “at the end of Surah al-Kahf”, and Hammam said “at the beginning”. Sunan Abi Dawud records the same split:

The beginning or the end Sahih (Al-Albani)
If anyone memorizes ten verses from the beginning of surat al-Kahf, he will be protected from the trial of Dajjal (Antichrist). Abu Dawud said: In this way Hashim al-dastawa’I transmitted it from Qatadah, but he said : “If anyone memorizes the closing verses of surat al-Kahf.” Shu’bah narrated from Qatadah the words “from the end of al-Kahf.

Two other authentic hadith point to the beginning. Sahih Muslim 2937 says to recite “the opening verses” of Al-Kahf over the Dajjal, and Jami’ at-Tirmidhi 2886 names “three Ayat from the beginning”. That’s why the first ten are the ones most people learn, and many learn both sets.

There is also a report from Abu Sa’id al-Khudri that names “the final ten verses” directly. Sunnah.com lists it (Special Virtues of the Qur’an 38) with a reference to al-Albani’s as-Silsilah as-Sahihah, but without a grade line, so we haven’t quoted it here as a hadith.

What the last ten verses say

These notes follow Ibn Kathir’s tafsir. The surah ends by turning from its stories to the Day of Resurrection: who loses, who wins, and what makes a deed count.

Verses 101–102: eyes covered from the reminder. Hell is shown to the disbelievers before they enter it. Ibn Kathir explains the covering over their eyes as neglect: they turned “a blind eye and a deaf ear” to the reminder.

Verses 103–106: the greatest losers. These are people whose efforts were wasted while they thought they were doing well. Sa’d ibn Abi Waqqas said the verse meant the Jews and Christians, and ‘Ali said the Haruriyyah. Ibn Kathir adds that it was revealed in Makkah, before either group was addressed. So it applies to “everyone who worships Allah in a way that is not acceptable, thinking that he is right”.

Verses 107–108: Al-Firdaws. The believers who do good will have the Gardens of Al-Firdaws, which Qatadah described as the centre and best of Paradise. However long they stay, Ibn Kathir says, they will never want to move. Ibn Kathir cites this hadith with these verses:

Ask for Al-Firdaws Sahih
So, when you ask Allah (for something), ask for Al-firdaus which is the best and highest part of Paradise. excerpt

Verse 109: the sea as ink. If the sea were ink for the words of Allah, it would run dry before they did, even with more seas added to it. Ibn Kathir compares it to 31:27, where all the trees are pens and seven more seas are added.

Verse 110: the last verse of the surah. The Prophet ﷺ is told to say he is only a man, to whom it was revealed that God is one. Ibn Kathir notes that he knew the stories of the cave and of Dhul-Qarnayn only because Allah told him. The verse ends with what Ibn Kathir calls the two conditions of an accepted deed: done for Allah alone, and done the way the Messenger ﷺ taught. On the first condition, the Prophet ﷺ reported that Allah said:

Deeds for Allah alone Sahih
Allah the Most High and Exalted said: I am the One, One Who does not stand in need of a partner. If anyone does anything in which he associates anyone else with Me, I shall abandon him with one whom he associates with Allah.

How to memorize the last 10 verses of Surah Kahf

The ten verses take about 3 minutes to recite at Mishari al-Afasy’s pace. Verse 110 alone takes 41 seconds, and verse 108 takes 6. Split the work so each day has about the same amount of sound:

DayNew versesRecitation timeThen
1101–10344 secRecite verses 101–103 from memory
2104–10652 secRecite verses 101–106
3107–10942 secRecite verses 101–109
411041 secRecite all ten
5NoneRecite all ten twice without looking

Verse 110 gets a day to itself because it’s the longest. It falls into two halves, so learn the part up to “your god is one God” first, then the rest.

After day 5, recite all ten once a day for a few weeks. They take about 3 minutes, so they fit after a prayer or before sleep.

Learning the first and last ten together

If you want both sets, start with the first ten, since most narrations name them. Our first 10 verses of Surah Kahf guide has the text and a five-day plan of its own. Then add the last ten with the plan above.

The first ten take about 2 minutes and the last ten about 3, so reviewing all twenty takes about 5 minutes a day.

Frequently asked questions

What are the last 10 verses of Surah Kahf?

They are verses 101 to 110 of Surah Al-Kahf, the 18th surah. They begin "Those whose eyes had been within a cover [removed] from My remembrance" and end with verse 110, the last verse of the surah.

Do the last 10 verses of Surah Kahf protect from the Dajjal?

The hadith of Abu ad-Darda in Sahih Muslim promises protection from the Dajjal for whoever memorizes ten verses of Al-Kahf. Should I memorize the first or the last 10 verses of Surah Kahf?

The first ten are the ones most narrations name, and two other authentic hadith also point to the opening verses (Sahih Muslim 2937, Jami' at-Tirmidhi 2886). Because some narrators said the end, many people learn both sets. Together they take about 5 minutes to recite.
