Frequently asked questions
What is tasbeeh?
Tasbeeh (also spelled tasbih) is the practice of repeating a short phrase of dhikr, remembrance of Allah, such as SubhanAllah (Glory be to Allah). It is traditionally counted on a misbaha, a string of 33 or 99 prayer beads, so a person can keep track without losing focus in the recitation itself.
Why is dhikr often counted in sets of 33?
The best-known pattern is 33 SubhanAllah, 33 Alhamdulillah, and 34 Allahu Akbar, taught by the Prophet ﷺ to his daughter Fatimah to say before sleeping (Sahih al-Bukhari 3113, Sahih Muslim 2727). A close variant, 33 of each after every obligatory prayer followed by a closing declaration of tawhid to complete 100, is reported in Sahih Muslim 597. This tool has a one-tap preset for the 33-33-34 pattern.
Can I use this instead of prayer beads?
Yes. A misbaha is a well-loved tool, not a requirement, and dhikr counted on a screen counts the same as dhikr counted on beads or fingers. This is simply a free alternative for whenever beads aren’t at hand, at a desk, on a commute, or between tasks.
Does this tasbeeh counter save my count?
Your current tally and your all-time total are saved only in your own browser, using local storage. Nothing is sent to Quran Loop or anyone else, and closing the tab or reloading the page won’t lose your place.
Can I count without a target, just a running tally?
Yes. Choose “No limit” for the target and the counter becomes a plain tally that counts up indefinitely, useful for open-ended dhikr like istighfar (seeking forgiveness) after a difficult day, or simply counting however many you like.
Is there a keyboard shortcut, so I don’t have to keep tapping the screen?
Yes. Press the space bar or Enter key anywhere on the page to add a count, which is easier on a laptop or when one hand is occupied.
Can I count without looking at the screen?
On a phone, yes. Tap Focus mode and the counter fills the screen, so a tap anywhere counts and the screen stays awake. Each tap gives a light vibration and reaching your target gives a longer triple pulse, so you can feel when a set of 33 is done. If you’d rather count silently, turn vibration off under Customize; the choice is remembered on your device.
